Your tutor Anna McLeod will take you from design to creation of your own terracotta bird feeder, adorned with birds and critters.
- First you will familiarize yourself with terracotta clay by having a play and make some snails & bugs & a bird that will adorn your birdfeeder.
- Learn about handling clay safely.
- Learn to connect clay together using the score & slip method.
- Brainstorm the requirements for a functional bird feeder.
- Plan & draw your design and decoration ideas.
- Make a paper template from your design.
- With your tutor’s guidance, construct the main body of the bird feeder with pre-rolled slabs of terracotta clay.
- Decorate your bird feeder with texture and colour.
- Adorn your feeder with the birds and bugs.
- The bird feeders will be carefully dried and kiln fired, ready for pick-up in 3 weeks time.
- This workshop is suitable for kids ages 9-12 who can stay engaged on a project for the duration of the workshop.
- Please wear clothes that can get messy.
- Please bring lunch, snacks and a drink bottle.
